Deaf People’s Inclusion in Sport
Accelerate Sport have launched a brand-new eLearning course, Deaf People’s Inclusion in Sport, written in partnership with UK Deaf Sport.
The eLearning course is designed for coaches, parents, carers, and staff working with, caring for, and supporting players in sporting environments. The focus of the course is to empower learners to feel confident in reaching and engaging with players who are deaf and hard of hearing by understanding their experiences and the barriers they face.
- Understanding deafness and the importance of inclusion.
- Understand how to engage with deaf people by identifying barriers.
- Understanding mental wellbeing of deaf and hard of hearing people and your duty of care.
- Considerations, practical tips, and the role those working in sport play.
The course is made up of 2 main modules. Module 1 will introduce learners to the topic, and touch on the technical barriers of hearing and communication in sport, and look at how to increase the confidence of players by addressing the social barriers.
Module 2 delves into deeper, more thought- provoking subjects, and looks at some strategies for supporting deaf and hard of hearing people. At the end of this module, learners will be provided with practical tips for supporting deaf and hard of hearing people, and suggest some resources that might be useful.
We’re delighted to have partnered with UK Deaf Sport on this project. UKDS is the national registered charity and is only recognised national governing body for Deaf sport in the United Kingdom.
