The Benefits of a Diverse Sports Volunteering Team

The demands and preferences of a diverse set of athletes may be better understood by a team from a range of ethnic backgrounds. As a result this could introduce more creative ways to interact with and help athletes.

Create a Safe and Inclusive Environment for All Athletes

It is important to continually review and assess the volunteering culture within your club. Meaning listening to feedback and concerns from athletes, coaches, and other volunteers; and then taking action to address any issues that may arise.

Representation in Sports Volunteering

When a sports volunteer group is representative of the diversity of the community, it can foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity for all athletes. As a result this can be especially important for marginalised or underrepresented groups, who may otherwise feel excluded or unsupported.

Promoting Social Change

Volunteering can provide a platform for addressing and raising awareness about social issues. For example, volunteers may work with organisations that use sports as a way to promote gender equality, combat racism and discrimination, or address issues related to mental health and well-being.

As a result of engaging in sports volunteering, individuals can be part of a movement that is working to create positive change and make a difference in the world

Overcoming these barriers
