Nigel Owens MBE

Nigel Owens MBE

Nigel is a former international rugby referee of 17 years, retiring from Test Rugby in 2020 after a successful career in sport, having officiated 100 games, including Rugby World Cups.

Owens came out as gay in 2007, and speaking on inclusion in sport, he said: “It is important that we are all treated the same and that we are judged on our character and nothing else. Not on the colour of your skin, your sexuality, religious beliefs, or wherever you come from.”

Nigel is a proud advocate for equality, diversity and inclusion and will be helping us spread the word about our training offer for sport and appearances at Accelerate Sport hosted events.

Mica Moore

Mica was an Olympian with Team GB in 2018 as she and pilot Mica McNeill recorded the best British female result in Olympic bobsleigh history with an eighth-place finish in PyeongChang but she stepped back from bobsleigh later that year to focus on her university studies and subsequent career.

During that time away, she completed a Masters in Sports Broadcasting at Cardiff Metropolitan University and presented for both British Athletics and European Athletics at major events. She also worked in medical sales, while continuing to train at a serious level.

Mica’s bobsleigh career began in the summer of 2016 and it started superbly as she picked up a brace of silver medals and a bronze on the North American Cup circuit that winter. She was second with McNeill in her first two races in Calgary and third in Whistler as she claimed a hat-trick of podium places in her first three competitions for GB.

Mica re-joined the GB Bobsleigh team in 2021 and also trains as a sprint athlete.
